Ten associates from our Edwardsville, KC, and Chattanooga offices recently completed IEC61850, GOOSE messaging, and Digital Substation Design Training in Nashville, TN. The PDS (Substation) associates that attended represented a mix of Testing and Commissioning Engineers, System Protection Engineers, P&C Engineers and Project Managers, and Program Managers.
During the training, team members discussed the benefits of GOOSE integration on greenfield sites. One significant benefit is a reduction in traditional copper wiring, which results in lower material and labor costs while not sacrificing reliability.
They also dove into the benefits of reduced CT saturation through digital messaging and Publisher/Subscriber relationships with A/D conversions.
Some additional topics discussed are outlined below:
- IEC61850 / MMS & GOOSE messaging and applications in Digital Substation Design
- SCADA Types Including MMS and MMS Data Sets
- MIRRORED BITS® overview and application
