What is it like being in project management at an engineering company?

Being in project management at an engineering company means bringing together structure and innovation. I get to collaborate with engineers with a technical background and have the opportunity to ensure that projects are executed efficiently, deadlines are met, and teams have the support they need to succeed. It’s a dynamic role that allows for a blend of problem-solving, communication, and leadership. I love seeing ideas go from conception to reality and knowing that I played a role in making that happen.

What made you go down the project management path?

I’ve always been drawn to efficiency and organization, and project management allowed me to merge that with my passion for engineering and process improvement. I enjoy the challenge of balancing multiple moving parts, collaborating with different disciplines, and ensuring that every project meets its goals. Over time, I realized that great engineering isn’t just about designing solutions, it’s about executing them seamlessly, and project management plays a key role in making that happen. I’ve always been drawn to solving problems and finding ways to improve processes, which is what led me to industrial engineering. I was especially interested in the big picture and how everything connects and how projects come together. Project management gives me the opportunity to blend technical knowledge with leadership, organization, and strategy. It allows me to work across different teams, tackle challenges from multiple angles, and ultimately help bring projects to life. It’s a role that requires adaptability and strong communication, and that’s what makes it so exciting.

What would you say to kids wanting to make engineering/project management their future?

If you love problem-solving, working with teams, and making a real impact, engineering, and project management are amazing paths to explore. Industrial engineering, in particular, is incredibly versatile and gives you the flexibility to work in so many different industries, from healthcare to energy to technology. Whether you enjoy designing solutions, optimizing processes, or leading teams, there’s a place for you in this field. Always stay curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone because every great engineer and project manager started with a willingness to learn and grow!
